Marks & Spencer’s Sparks loyalty scheme is fully operational again online, and the retailer is marking the occasion with “treats” for customers and colleagues as it recovers from cyber-attack disruption.

Marks & Spencer said it the resumption of Sparks offers will be celebrated with “birthday treats”, such as Percy Pigs and Swiss Truffles for 1.8 million customers.

M&S is also thanking its 63,000 staff and 2,500 contactors with an extra discount on purchases, and bringing back the Sparks coffee stamp scheme, which rewards every six stamps collected with a free coffee.

This weekend, M&S will increase its 20% colleague discount to 30% for four days. The extension of a 10% discount to contractors – for the first time other than Christmas – rewards workers such as security and cleaning contractors, as well as in-store beauty advisors from Clinique and Estee Lauder.

M&S director of loyalty, fashion, home and beauty marketing and masterbrand Sharry Cramond said: “Over the last three months, our colleagues have demonstrated real commitment and teamwork. At the same time, our customers have shown us fantastic support and loyalty. These extra Sparks rewards are a small gesture to say thank you.”

M&S was hit by a cyber attack in April, which led to disruption of everything from in-store payments to availability, and resulted in the suspension of online trading for weeks. The attack is expected to cost M&S about £300m, much of which will be covered by insurance. Last week, four suspects were arrested over cyber-ttacks on retailers including the Co-op and Harrods as well as M&S.
