Londis to grow food to go as takeover looms

Symbol group Londis, understood to be a£40 million takeover target of Musgrave, plans to introduce its food-to-go offer to a further 200 stores over the next 18 months.

The convenience store business carries food to go in approximately 750 stores at present, and the extension will take the offer into about half of Londis's outlets.

The food-to-go counters include convenience foods, bakery products and, in some shops, fresh coffee.

Miki Handzar, the Londis trading controller responsible for food to go, said: 'Our aim is to persuade UK consumers that a convenience store is the place to buy hot, fresh, good-quality food to go. The key is to start with a simple range and gradually build on your success.'

According to reports, Londis shareholders will vote on the offer from Irish grocer Musgrave at a meeting scheduled for December 30. Londis has more than 2000 stores.
