Pick n Pay opens first store in Zambia

South African grocer Pick n Pay has opened a store in the Zambian capital city of Lusaka, its first in the country.

The retailer plans to expand its Zambian network to seven stores over the next five years. Pick n Pay’s move into Zambia comes shortly after the retailer announced a series of market entries for 2010 and 2011, including Angola, Mozambique, Mauritius and Malawi.

The retailer’s strategy to focus on Sub-Saharan Africa exclusively was underlined by its recent decision to withdraw from Australia.
