International News - RadioShack adopts Hispanic ad strategy

US electricals giant Radio-Shack plans a TV advertising campaign later this year, specifically targeting the Hispanic market.

La Bamba and Young Guns star Lou Diamond Phillips and Mexican-born singer and actress Daniela Lujan have been drafted in for the campaign by 7,000-store RadioShack. The television adverts will air in markets including Texas, California, Florida and Puerto Rico.

RadioShack chief brand officer Jim McDonald said he thought the adverts would 'strike a positive note'.

US retailers are increasingly targeting Hispanic shoppers, whose spending power amounted to US$580 billion (£366 billion) last year. Two weeks ago, Kmart launched its Thalia womenswear range in 335 stores, which is designed to capitalise on the high recognition of established Hispanic singer Thalia.

The singer only recently released her first English-language CD.
