Homebase is in consultation with up to 300 of its staff as the struggling DIY retailer seeks to adjust its store leadership structure for the difficult trading environment.

In a statement Homebase said: “The changes will create a more efficient and effective structure and help us to protect our levels of customer service while reducing costs. The restructure will potentially affect up to 300 colleagues across the business.”

Homebase employees were informed of the consultation on Wednesday.

The retailer said it will “make every effort to minimise the number of redundancies necessary” and anticipates the process will be completed by mid-March.

This latest consultation is separate from Homebase’s consultation for about 100 roles, which is ongoing and started last year.

Homebase’s sister company Argos has discontinued a two-year trial in India after it failed to meet planned performance levels required to support the investment.
