Vision Express has chosen Nick Coton, the chief financial officer of its parent company, to be its new managing director, Retail Week can reveal.
In a statement confirming Coton’s promotion, a spokeswoman said he would be made managing director for EssilorLuxottica UK and Ireland Optical Retail from February 23.
Coton has spent over a decade at the business having joined in 2015 as head of financial planning and analysis, before becoming chief financial officer in May 2019.
He also previously worked as the CFO of Synoptik in Copenhagen, Denmark. He begun his career in retail with Claire’s Accessories in 2004.
Coton said: “I’m excited and honoured to step into this role at a pivotal moment for our business. With the rapid growth of smart eyewear and the latest in med-tech innovation, we have an exciting opportunity to shape the future of eyecare in the UK. My focus is on supporting our teams through this next chapter of innovation and growth. Together, we’ll continue strengthening our customer experience and building the best opticians in the UK.”
Coton will step up after former MD Steve Worboys left to take up a new role with Holland & Barrett, as was revealed by Retail Week in January.
During Worboys’ time at the retailer, he become part of a leadership team that helped drive a successful transformation as it integrated into the EssilorLuxottica group, which owns brands such as Ray-Ban, Oakley and Sunglass Hut.
Worboys will join the Holland & Barrett in March as its new chief operating officer, as part of group chief executive Anthony Houghton’s leadership reshuffle, alongside a new chief commercial officer, chief strategy officer and chief digital officer.
