Walmart is closing its personal shopping service after failing to find investors for the struggling operation.

Jetblack – a text message-based concierge service – will cease deliveries on February 21, resulting in most of its 350 staff losing their jobs.

Walmart attempted to spin off the struggling business after the personal shopping service gained fewer than 1,000 customers last year.

The retailer was in discussions with several investors including Microsoft, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Some staff affected by the closure, including some of Jetblack’s technology and design team, will join Walmart’s wider customer organisation teams.

A Walmart spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal the company will lay off 293 of Jetblack’s employees.
