Asda launches one-hour click-and-collect service

The grocer will roll out its Express Click and Collect proposition over the coming months following a trial at stores in Killingbeck and Middleton at the end of last year.

Shoppers will be able to shop Asda’s full range of products online and select the rapid collection option for £3 per order, with no minimum or maximum order value.

Asda said the fulfilment option was “a first for a UK supermarket” and has been designed to cater to shoppers who had “forgotten an essential item after the big shop or needed last-minute dinner ingredients”.

The Walmart-owned supermarket chain is also extending its same-day delivery service to 284 stores as it ramps up its fulfilment capabilities.

Asda said the move was in response to feedback from customers, which revealed there was “greater demand than ever” for same-day deliveries.

Shoppers placing online orders before midday will receive their deliveries as early as 3.30pm the same day.

Asda vice president of online grocery Simon Gregg said: “As modern lives have become busier and busier, our customers have told us that they want even more convenient ways to shop, so we have been working around the clock to introduce new trials and rollout services that meet their needs without compromising on price or quality.

“When we launched the Express Click and Collect trial we expected to see people picking-up forgotten items from their weekly shop, or basics such as bread, milk, nappies and last-minute dinner ingredients. In reality, it has been used for everything from a small weekly shop to those just wanting to pick up a few essentials.

“As a result of the huge demand we’ve seen in response to the trial, we’re working hard to roll it out further early this year.
