In a UK retail first, all own-label dairy products stocked by Waitrose will be made using British ingredients.
From September, yoghurts, dairy ice-cream, milk, cream, cheddar and butter sold in Waitrose’s own-brand range will be made using 100% British products.
Waitrose agricultural communications manager Amy Hayward said: “We already have 100% British milk and cream under our essential Waitrose line and those products are from our 60 dedicated farmers. Their milk is segregated so we know exactly where each pint of milk has come from.”
She added that dairy ice-cream and yoghurt would be included from September 1 “because we can guarantee that all the semi-skimmed milk powder used will be British in those two products making us 100% British own label Waitrose”.
