Sainsbury’s head of own-label product development and innovation Claire Hughes has announced she will be leaving the retailer after seven years.
As first reported by The Grocer, director of fresh product innovation James Campbell has been appointed to fill Hughes’ position. The Grocer said it understood the departure was for personal reasons.
Hughes said on LinkedIn: “After seven incredible years, I have said farewell to Sainsbury’s. The last seven years have been an amazing journey full of purpose, challenge and working with brilliant people but I’ve decided to take a break to focus on family.
“Looking back, I’m proud of what we achieved in my time there, rebuilding the innovation team, tripling our rate of innovation, growing Taste the Difference to over £1.8bn and championing plastic reduction across packaging.
Hughes’ LinkedIn page says she previously spent nearly 13 years working at Marks & Spencer before joining Sainsbury’s in 2018.
It is the one of two major departures from Sainsbury’s to be reported this week after Clodagh Moriarty, retail and technology officer, was appointed as the new chief executive of Dunelm.
