Hugh is news editor at Retail Week, responsible for managing the news desk which produces our daily coverage, exclusive stories, news analysis, interviews with established industry voices and emerging brands, and store galleries. He covers the grocery beat but also writes about the value and convenience sectors and has also written about fashion, department stores and tech.
Hugh began his journalism career as a staff writer at travel and lifestyle magazine TNT in his native Australia in 2012. He moved to the UK in 2014 and briefly worked at the BBC, before joining charity trade publication Civil Society Media in 2015. He was promoted to senior reporter there in 2016 and began focusing predominantly on investigative reporting and feature writing for the brand’s Fundraising Magazine title.
He joined Retail Week as a reporter in 2019 and was named news editor in 2022.
