Upmarket grocer Waitrose has secured the future of its Hersham store in Surrey by purchasing the freehold of the Hersham Green Shopping Centre.

In acquiring the 54,000 sq ft centre, Waitrose will become the landlord of the additional 16 retail units on site, while also “continuing to provide essential parking for the shopping centre and wider village” it said.

The grocer said the 27,000 sq ft Waitrose store is a “key hub” for the village of Hersham, “offering full-service meat, fish and deli counters, a Sushi Daily counter and dedicated John Lewis click and collect point”.

The store is also a hub for home delivery services, such as Deliveroo, JustEat and UberEats.

Beyond retail, Waitrose said the store “remains active in local outreach” and that it donates £12,000 annual to local causes through the Waitrose Community Matters programme.

It also has surplus food donation partnerships with FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

Branch manager Barry Spencer said: “We are pleased to have secured the future of our Hersham store. This acquisition reflects our long-term commitment to the town and provides certainty for our customers and our partners, who work hard to serve the local community. We have been part of Hersham for two decades, and we look forward to playing a role in the town’s continued success for many years to come.”
