Upmarket grocer Waitrose has secured the future of its Hersham store in Surrey by purchasing the freehold of the Hersham Green Shopping Centre.
In acquiring the 54,000 sq ft centre, Waitrose will become the landlord of the additional 16 retail units on site, while also âcontinuing to provide essential parking for the shopping centre and wider villageâ it said.
The grocer said the 27,000 sq ft Waitrose store is a âkey hubâ for the village of Hersham, âoffering full-service meat, fish and deli counters, a Sushi Daily counter and dedicated John Lewis click and collect pointâ.
The store is also a hub for home delivery services, such as Deliveroo, JustEat and UberEats.
Beyond retail, Waitrose said the store âremains active in local outreachâ and that it donates ÂŁ12,000 annual to local causes through the Waitrose Community Matters programme.
It also has surplus food donation partnerships with FareShare and the Trussell Trust.
Branch manager Barry Spencer said: âWe are pleased to have secured the future of our Hersham store. This acquisition reflects our long-term commitment to the town and provides certainty for our customers and our partners, who work hard to serve the local community. We have been part of Hersham for two decades, and we look forward to playing a role in the townâs continued success for many years to come.â
