Asda is putting a price freeze on more than 500 of its branded and own-brand products until the end of August in a bid to “give customers more control over what they spend”.

The supermarket chain said pasta, cereals and tea, as well as salads, burgers and ice cream, would all be included in the price lock.

The announcement came as Asda’s income tracker showed that household disposable incomes “continue to fall on a month-by-month basis”, according to the latest figures.

Asda said in a statement that it is continuing to support shoppers amid the cost-of-living crisis by “keeping prices in check and launching new ways to provide customers with more value”.

As well as Asda’s price-freeze promise, the supermarket chain is also offering customers a “limited time trial” for its delivery pass service, which removes the delivery charge for any online orders during the trial period.

Asda chief commercial officer Kris Comerford said: “We’re always looking at ways we can support our customers and communities throughout the year, which is why we’re locking the prices of hundreds of products until the end of August.

“We know that household budgets are tight at the moment, so we want to be able to offer the best value and give customers the confidence they can shop the products they love throughout summer.”

The prize-freeze roll-out follows Asda’s announcement last month confirming that Blue Light Card holders are eligible for their 10% discount through the Asda Rewards app.
