Primark is increasing the hourly pay rate for more than 27,000 of its retail colleagues.

From April 1, customer assistants across the fashion retailer’s England, Scotland, and Wales stores will see their pay rise to a minimum of £13. This increases to £13.71 for those inside London.
Primark said new rates mean that over the last three years, on average, store colleagues will have seen their hourly pay rate increase by over 15%.
Staff will be able to continue to benefit from a 15% year-round discount, as well as improved maternity, paternity, adoption, and surrogacy payments.
Primark UK retail director Kari Rodgers said: “As retail becomes a more demanding environment, our colleagues play an increasingly important role to support our customers and the local communities we’re part of up and down the country.
“By investing in increasing colleague pay, we hope this goes some way towards recognising their hard work, commitment, and the value they bring every day.”
Last week, Primark parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) confirmed the permanent appointment of Eoin Tonge as the retailer’s chief executive.
Tonge, who joined ABF as group finance director in April 2023, stepped up as interim last year following the departure of Paul Marchant.
