Asos has unveiled plans to open a new £90m warehouse to support “ever-increasing customer demand” and help it accelerate its delivery capabilities.

The online fashion giant said the site in Lichfield, Staffordshire, would employ 2,000 people over the next three years.

Asos hopes the 437,000 sq ft site will be operational within 12 months, but plans to gradually ramp up capacity between then and 2023.

The etailer said the fulfilment centre’s location, with good road and airport links, would allow it to serve customers “in the UK and around the world”.

The site will be Asos’ fourth warehouse, adding to sites it already operates in Barnsley in Yorkshire, Berlin in Germany and Atlanta in the US.

Asos chief executive Nick Beighton said: “This significant investment in infrastructure and large-scale job creation is a reflection of the confidence Asos has in its future and the quality of the skills and talent available in this well-placed location.

“When fully up and running in 2023, the site will support our ever-increasing customer demand and enable us to develop our offerings and delivery capabilities even further.”

Business secretary Alok Sharma added: “Asos is a great British success story at the heart of our vibrant fashion industry and I welcome their clear vote of confidence in our skilled workforce.

“This job-creating investment in Lichfield is exactly the type of long-term commitment we need from businesses as we build back better from the pandemic.”
