Plus-size fashion retailer Evans is launching in the US with a catalogue, web site and standalone stores.

The retailer, which is part of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia Group, will send out more than 1 million catalogues in August, followed by the launch of a US web site. It is also considering opening standalone stores in the country.

Evans creative director Sue Perryman said that, in the UK, plus-size body shapes are now more accepted in the mainstream fashion market. “We don’t really get the same kind of segregation as in the US. We’re in magazines such as In Style, Marie Claire and Glamour in the UK. We’re integrated with everything,” she said.

The move comes as Arcadia prepares to open a flagship Topshop store in New York this autumn.

Evans has 350 stores across the UK and sells women’s apparel in sizes 16 to 32. Earlier this month, it also launched its first bridalwear collection.
