Fashion retailer N Brown, which owns brands including Simply Be, Jacamo and JD Williams, has announced the departure of chair Ron McMillan.

McMillan is expected to step down from his role on April 30, 2024, due to “personal reasons”.

Following his departure, group chief executive Steve Johnson will take on the role as interim executive chair until a successor is appointed.

N Brown said the search for a permanent replacement is underway and an announcement will be made “in due course”.

The fashion retailer’s independent non-executive director Meg Lustman will also take on the role of interim chair of the nominations and governance commmittee until a replacement is named.

Johnson said: “Ron has made a significant contribution as chair and has played a critical role in the transformation of this company.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Ron for his dedication to N Brown.”

The fashion retailer announced that independent non-executive director Vicky Mitchell is also stepping down to focus on “other professional commitments” after N Brown’s annual general meeting in July this year.

The retailer said in a statement: “The board would like to express its gratitude to Vicky Mitchell for her service to N Brown.”

This comes after the fashion retailer said it remained “confident” in its strategy despite posting a 9.3% decline in revenue in its third quarter to Januray 6, 2024.
