Flipkart is India’s largest ecommerce marketplace, founded in 2002 by a team of two ex-Amazon employees, Binny and Sascha Bansal. It began as a book and entertainment retailer, but has expanded rapidly to sell music, movies, fashion and general merchandise. It now sells more than 80 million products across more than 80 categories and has over 100,000 registered sellers.
Flipkart acquired online fashion platform Myntra in 2014. It competes with Amazon in its home market of India.
In late 2018 Walmart acquired a 77% controlling stake in Flipkart, making it a subsidiary of the US giant.
