Choices plans to double size in DVD blitz

Home Entertainment - owner of the Choices Video chain - aims to double store numbers over the next few years, as it capitalises on the booming DVD market.

The retailer, which rents and sells DVDs, competes with the likes of Blockbuster and has 210 stores, but aims to pass the 400 mark in the long term.

Home Entertainment chairman Iain Muspratt said Choices plans to open at least 20 shops a year. He would not rule out an acquisition, but said he was not interested in the up-for-sale music retailer Sanity.

Choices is also opening larger stores. The average size is rising from 2,500 sq ft (230 sq m) to 3,500 sq ft (325 sq m) to enable the retailer to offer a wider range.
