Carphone posts sales increase

Mobile communication specialist Carphone Warehouse rang up like-for-like sales growth of 9.1 per cent during the 13 weeks to December 28. Group sales were£550 million for the period.

In the three weeks since, the retailer said mobile phone connections were up almost 22 per cent.

Chief executive Charles Dunstone said the outlook for trading is good despite the belated launch of the latest 3G phones.

Carphone is launching a residential fixed-line service next month and hopes to tap into up to 20 per cent of its existing mobile phone customer base.
