BRC spotlights food debate with launch of essays

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) aims to stir up discussion with the launch of a food essay series it hopes will be published by consumer and trade magazines.

The first essay, focusing on concerns about diet and healthy eating, is written by Safeway director of communications Kevin Hawkins.

'There is an unprecedented interest in food from both consumers and those with a professional interest in the food sector,' said BRC director of food policy Richard Ali.

'Future essays will come not from just retailers, but from leading academics and relevant figures across the whole food chain,' he added.
