UK e-tailers grab bigger Web share

UK e-tailers are taking a larger slice of Web traffic, according to monitoring service Hitwise.

During the week ending November 23, the share of visits to Web sites being used by retailers increased by 8.3 per cent. The previous week the increase was 5.5 per cent.

Hitwise measures how many times a Web site is visited by users, taking figures from ISPs. Most of the 19 sub-sectors in Hitwise's retailing category are experiencing growth.

- A bumper e-Christmas is forecast by the Royal Mail and IMRG. Spending online is anticipated to hit£1 billion with the number of Net shoppers growing 40 per cent to 10 million.
