Notonthehighstreet has snapped up drinks supplier Matthew Clark’s former finance boss David Philips to head up its financial operations.

The online marketplace has appointed David Phillips, who has previously worked at food and drink suppliers including Constellation Europe and Danisco, as a member of its executive team.

Philips is the latest in a series of executive hires by the etailer, which poached Hannah Webley-Smith from Benefit to head up its customer strategy and Hugh Fahy, who previously worked at Net-a-Porter, as its chief information officer.

A statement from Notonthehighstreet said that Philips “has experience in a wide range of industries in the UK and worldwide, including retail, FMCG, manufacturing and distribution” and that his appointment will “provide the business with a wealth of financial experience to implement its growth strategy.”

Continued expansion

The etailer is understood to be in talks with private investors to raise £25m via the selling of new shares to further fuel its expansion.

Phillips left alcohol supplier Matthew Clark last November after its £200m sale to Bargain Booze owner Conviviality. His role at Notonthehighstreet is his first appointment since leaving the supplier.

Notonthehighstreet chief executive Simon Belsham said: “I am delighted to have David on board and believe his expertise will enable Notonthehighstreet.com to execute our growth strategy while providing strong financial and operations acumen.

“David joins us at an exciting time and he will be an excellent fit for the business, strengthening our growing management team.”

Phillips said: “Notonthehighstreet.com has a fantastic business model and an impressive leadership team, which I am delighted to be joining.

“I look forward to helping build the business and delivering long term growth.”
