Superdrug management shake-up

Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has installed a new management team to drive the business forward.

Superdrug, owned by Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa, is managed within the AS Watson Health & Beauty UK stable, along with 200-store value chain Savers. Philip Ingham has been appointed chief executive of AS Watson UK and Superdrug. He previously worked for AS Watson in Asia.

Gerard Hazelebach is the new managing director of Superdrug, replacing Liz Wright who has returned to Kingfisher.

Kruidvat, which acquired Superdrug two years ago, was in turn swallowed by Hutchison last August for£830 million.

Ingham sits on the board of AS Watson Health and Beauty Europe, which manages the Kruidvat portfolio. Kruidvat has more than 1,900 shops, including the Trekpleister fascia and perfumery chain ICI Paris XL in the Netherlands and Belgium.

A Superdrug spokeswoman said: 'Now we are part of a bigger group we have a lot more buying power and are able to source products across Europe and Asia. We will still operate the same retail brand and are not changing what Superdrug stands for.'
