Poundland is to start transforming its stores to include its “biggest makeover in general merchandise” in the company’s history.

The discounter said it will bring in 2,000 new lines across its entire 850-plus stores in the UK and Ireland, with the new ranges powered by parent company Pepco Group.

Each Poundland store will hold a home event over the next few weeks to introduce customers to its new general merchandise range which includes candles, cushions, containers, toys and technology.

Kitchenware starts from £1.25, bathroom decor from 50p and containers start from 75p.

The full range will enter stores in the next few weeks with almost 1,000 items available from today (January 30).

New lines will be available at Poundland.co.uk with 170 best-selling items available this week, growing to 450 in the near future.

Range revolution

The introduction of new home ranges follows last year’s range revolution in clothing that saw new clothing lines powered by Pepco and the reconfiguration of stores to offer more baby and kids clothing than ever before.

The group said that since Poundland now has access to the same ranges on offer in Pepco’s 4,800-plus store estate worldwide, it can “double down” on its promise of “amazing value” to customers.

Poundland director of trading Tim Bettley said: “It’s hard to underestimate the importance of this move for our customers – not least because of the incredible value these ranges also offer.

“Completing the transition of both clothing and home ranges to revamped ranges powered by our parent company Pepco will not only give our stores a fresh new look, but deliver the amazing value that’s at the heart of our customer promise.

“A change on this scale is transformational for Poundland and we’re excited to see the customer reaction to these ranges.”

Over the past five years, Poundland has undertaken a range revolution in its stores. Other new categories include chilled and frozen food, giving customers an alternative to supermarkets.
