I have been the manager of the Wood Green store for 18 months and have been with Peacocks for more than four years.

My store is located in Wood Green’s Shopping City and has managed double-digit sales growth for each of the past two years. I have achieved this by setting clear standards and expectations for my team, as well as establishing a daily rhythm and routine in store, which has helped maintain high standards.

In this challenging economic climate, it is important that we are smarter with the resources we have, because it is inevitable there will be pressure on our cost base this year.

I believe that no number of hours are enough if staff don’t know what they are doing, so I have been focusing my efforts on “multi-skilling” my team. This has paid dividends in terms of improving operational efficiencies, retaining good colleagues and providing general motivation.

It is key in these tough times that we focus on training and development to give us the edge over our competition.

Peacocks has been extremely supportive of my development and recently I have taken on the role of manager/coach, which involves inducting and training new management into the business. Passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm to people joining the business has been extremely rewarding and has included training a new regional manager.

Our company is somewhere I feel that I can thrive and also help others to do the same.
