Tesco and Waitrose also see record gains
Sainsbury's improved its market share in supermarket till roll receipts for the 12 weeks to November 7, according to the TNS Superpanel.

Tesco and Waitrose also increased their shares to record levels over the period, with the grocery retailers standing at 28.3 per cent and 3.6 per cent respectively.

The combined Morrisons/Safeway share declined to 13.2 per cent, compared with 14.8 per cent a year ago.

TNS Superpanel communications director Ed Garner said: 'It has to be remembered that some decline is inevitable with the divestment of the 52 stores as required by the Competition Commission. The key questions remains, when will this decline halt and the proven merits bear fruit?'
