What was your first job in retailing?
Dealership marketing manager at Honda. It involved meeting car dealers and keeping them on brand, while advising and supporting them with ways of delivering strong local marketing.
Which retail company do you admire most and why?
Graze. It’s a great proposition, great product, which is well delivered, and always exceeding customer expectations. It also has developed a brilliant member-get-member mechanic.
What is the trait you least like in yourself and why?
My love of junk food. I know I shouldn’t eat it, but I can’t stop myself.
Who have you learnt the most from in your retail career?
The counter starts at zero every day.
What advice would you give someone starting out in retail?
Find a strong product with a strong demand and ensure you innovate it.
What keeps you awake at night?
Not much - but keeping our customer happy is the most important thing, which is what I concentrate on.
What is the most satisfying part of your job?
Delivering something from conception to market, which then makes a positive commercial impact.
What’s your proudest achievement?
In my previous role at Lastminute.com we exceeded Expedia in natural search for the first time in Lastminute.com’s history.
What’s your favourite shop and why?
A small local deli in Weybridge near to where I live. It smells great, has loads of tasty treats and is a great experience for all your senses.
What was your last purchase?
A pair of Grenson brown suede brogues from My-Wardrobe (of course).
