Retail Solutions - Spar scheme to trial e-mailing Internet kiosks

Supermarket chain Spar is trialling a scheme to put Internet kiosks in its stores.

Customers could use the Internet kiosks to access Government information as well as being able to contact suppliers direct to purchase goods and services.

The kiosks will also offer community details and information from government-funded self-help groups.

Spar retail director Steve Blackmore said the company had a number of suppliers interested in the system.

Instead of usual Web site-based buying, the kiosks essentially send an e-mail to suppliers with basic customer contact details.

The supplier's call centre then contacts the customer by phone.

Spar is working with Touch-2-Save on the project.
