Retail Property - Lunn Poly trials concept store at Fforestfach park

The UK's largest travel agency Lunn Poly, part of the TUI travel group, is trialling a new store format at Hammerson's Fforestfach retail park in Swansea, South Wales. The format could soon be rolled out to 10 more locations across the UK.

The store embraces new technology, with late deals advertised on touchscreens, giving customers special offers that can be printed out to help speed up the booking process. The store also uses a pager system at busy times, allowing customers to browse brochures and touchscreens without losing their place in the queue.

Elements of the new store, such as the Mediterranean decor, coffee area, Parisian music and travel imagery, have been used in Lunn Poly's existing refurbishment programme, which has seen 300 of the 750 branches upgraded in the past two years.

The new format incorporates portable screens that can be used to reduce the apparent size of the store during the holiday trade's quieter periods.

Lunn Poly managing director Chris Motteshead said: 'We will be monitoring closely the success of the Swansea store so we can replicate it in UK other locations.'
