In a departure for Marks & Spencer, the retailer has signed its first-ever pre-letting for an Outlet store.
Until now, all of M&S's Outlet acquisitions have been at established centres. The retailer has taken a 7,750 sq ft (720 sq m) unit off-plan at Thornfield Properties' Springfields development at Spalding in Lincolnshire.
M&S will join a strong tenant line-up at the 140,000 sq ft (13,000 sq m) outlet centre, including Mexx, Suits You, Caterpillar, Virgin Cosmetics, Pilot, Cotton Traders, Antler, Designer Room, XS Music, Julian Graves, Ponden Mill and Blue Diamond Garden Centres.
The scheme is scheduled to open in April, and only five units remain available - all of which are under negotiation.
Thornfield Properties dev-elopment executive Ian Sanderson said: 'Springfields represents one of the last remaining outlet opportunities in the UK. Retail brands are backing the scheme, re-affirming confidence in CACI's sales density predictions of more than£350 per sq ft (£3,750 per sq m).'
