Property News - Livingston centre extension completed

Land Securities has completed the latest extension to the Almondvale Shopping Centre at Livingston in Scotland and increased floorspace from 48,310 sq m to 50,025 sq m.

A former JJB Sports store has been sub-divided and extended over an existing service road, providing an additional 1,725 sq m at mall level. The new space has been leased to JJB Sports, HMV, New Look - which signed up for two units - and Blockbuster Video.

Three of the five new units face inwards towards the main thoroughfare of the mall, while the remaining two operate from the car park level, giving the centre an increasingly outward-looking appearance, and adding a new dimension to the facade of the building.

The existing tenants are Bhs, Dixons, River Island, Woolworths, Symingtons, Dorothy Perkins, Argos and Vision Express.

Land Securities portfolio manager David Smith said: 'We believe that Livingston is fast becoming one of Scotland's top retail destinations - a fact which is borne out by the arrival of Next and Scotland's first Asda Wal-Mart.

'This has acted as a catalyst for other high street retailers - HMV and New Look being prime examples.'
