Rob Hattrell will join TDR Capital as a partner in September

Retail Week can reveal that Hattrell will be joining the private equity giant as a partner from September and will leave eBay after five years at the business.

An eBay spokesman confirmed Hattrell’s departure, saying: “eBay can confirm that Rob Hattrell will leave eBay next month to pursue a new opportunity. Rob led the UK business for three years until 2020 when he took over responsibility for all European markets.

“Jordan Sweetnam, senior vice-president and general manager of North America, will assume responsibility for eBay markets globally, and Murray Lambell will continue to lead eBay in the UK.

“We wish Rob well for his next chapter and thank him for the significant contribution he has made to eBay.”

Hattrell joined eBay in 2017 from Tesco where he ran the grocer’s general merchandise business having joined in 2009.

He began his career at Accenture where he was a partner in their retail practice.

Hattrell will be joining TDR Capital months after the private equity firm and EG Group founders Mohsin and Zuber Issa completed their acquisition of UK grocery chain Asda

He was also reportedly approached to replace former Asos chief executive Nick Beighton at the helm of the pureplay fashion giant but declined the offer.
