Boots is set to cut 300 jobs across various functions at its Nottingham head office as it grapples with “changing consumer behaviours” in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The proposed job cuts, which will be made across a range of divisions and seniority levels at Boots HQ, equates to 10% of the health and beauty retailer’s head office workforce.

The proposed restructure is part of Boots’ ongoing transformation strategy as the retailer plans to invest in its digital business and serve customers “more efficiently”.

No store or pharmacy roles will be impacted by the proposed job cuts, which are subject to consultation.

Boots UK boss Seb James said: “The events of the last year have changed consumer behaviours forever and we must adapt our business to meet these new needs. This means investing in our digital business, serving customers more efficiently and, above all, becoming much swifter and more agile.

”I am acutely aware that this structural change will be difficult for our amazing team in Nottingham and we will do everything we can to make sure that we support and help anybody who is affected.”

Two key executives at Boots – chief operating officer Tracey Clements and vice president of beauty and gifting Joanna Rogers – have both departed the business in recent weeks for new roles.
