Asda has disclosed its latest gender pay data

The figures revealed a reduction in the median pay gap and a rise in the mean figure.

Asda reported that the median hourly pay difference between all male and female staff in 2024 was 4%, compared to 5% in 2023. The mean hourly pay difference between was up from 6% to 7%.

There was no gap at all between hourly-paid retail store staff, who account for 92% of Asda’s total workforce.

Asda said that its gender pay differences are “significantly lower” than the UK average median of 13.1% and mean of 13.8.%, as measured by the Office for National Statistics.

Asda chief people and corporate affairs officer Hayley Tatum said: “We’re committed to fostering an inclusive culture where every colleague can thrive and reach their full potential.

“While we’re making progress in reducing the pay gap, we know more work is needed, particularly when it comes to helping female colleagues move into more senior roles.

“One of the ways we’re doing this is by offering a range of development opportunities that are equipping women from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge, skills and confidence to progress in their careers at Asda.”

All companies with 250 or more employees are required to publish gender pay gap data. Asda has been embroiled for some time in a legal dispute over equal pay centred on differences between reward for shopfloor roles, often held by women, and warehouse positions often held by men.
