Northern Electric seeks growth chances

Northern Electric Retail is looking for further expansion opportunities following its purchase of ShopElectric earlier this year. The retailer announced in May it had taken over ShopElectric, doubling its size to 64 stores.

Managing director Dave Crompton said the turnover of the combined businesses was now more than£100 million. He said the business would now look to expand organically and through acquisitions of other small electricals chains.

ShopElectric is based in Northern Ireland, and Northern Electric Retail is confined to north England and Yorkshire.

Crompton said he was open to opportunities for small chains that would provide a 'good geographical fit.'

'It's a lot of work to find and buy or lease new stores. We are never going to grow to the size we'd like to by just doing that,' he added.

Northern Electric Retail was hived off from parent Northern Electric last year.
