Frasers Group, whose business include Game, Sports Direct and Studio Retail, has acquired technology retailer Ebuyer out of administration.

Ebuyer, a digital marketplace which sells laptops, televisions, monitors and other technology items, experienced an operating loss of £1.8m in the year to December 31 2023, down from a pre-tax profit of £104,000.

The group cut 50 jobs as a result of its operating losses and its sales fell from £174.2m to £136.5m.

At the time the group’s accounts report read: “The decline in the market has led to difficult trading conditions for the company, with turnover mirroring the downturn with a reduction of 22 per cent year on year.

“To address the difficult trading, the director initiated cost reduction and efficiency plans to improve both the short-term and long-term profitability of the business.

“These plans resulted in 50 employees leaving as the business right sized.”

More recently the group had faced a winding-up petition due to unpaid rent from its landlord Urban Logistics Acquisitions 6.

The retailer was snapped up by Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group and the product range has widened, the Ebuyer website also now links to Frasers’ Studio Retail business.

FRP Advisory partner Tony Wright said: “Frasers Group has an established record of successfully taking retail brands forward and unlocking their potential.

“Ebuyer is a recognised name in the consumer technology space, and this transaction provides a platform it can use to reestablish its position as one of the UK’s largest PC components retailers.”
