Moss's local health alliances boost sales

Moss Pharmacy's community-based offer is proving to be just the tonic for customers, with the chain posting first-half like-for-like sales growth of 6.4 per cent.

The Alliance UniChem-owned retailer is working alongside local health authorities to provide patient services such as blood pressure testing and full cardiac risk assessments in stores.

In the UK, sales from Moss's 900 outlets rose 12 per cent to£415 million in the six months to June 30. Earnings from NHS prescriptions increased by 13.3 per cent, with operating margins boosted by higher revenue from patient and manufacturing services and improved operating efficiencies.

Moss is waiting for detailed guidance on how to implement the Government's new policy on the control of entry regulations for new pharmacy contracts.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and Department of Health have yet to agree on the proposed contract governing reimbursement for prescriptions and services.
