Centres in London and Manchester follow Bluewater
The fight against hooliganism in the country's shopping centres is growing as more locations follow Bluewater's initiative to ban yobbish behaviour. The Essex shopping centre has been joined by the Trafford Centre in Manchester and the Elephant and Castle Complex in London after it declared that shopper numbers rose by 20 per cent since it introduced a shopper code of conduct.

Bluewater's code bans the wearing of hooded tops and baseball caps because they obscure miscreant's faces on CCTV.

Seymour Pierce analyst Richard Ratner said that upmarket shopping centres would benefit from cracking down on the yob element, but that blanket bans could exclude bona fide shoppers.
