Morrisons will launch convenience stores in the Channel Islands after penning a franchise and wholesale partnership with Sandpiper.

The supermarket giant will supply all of Sandpiper’s 43 grocery stores in Jersey and Guernsey.

Under the terms of the deal, all of Sandpiper’s stores operating under the Food Hall fascia – the majority of its estate on the two islands – will also be rebranded to Morrisons Daily.

Morrisons, which is leveraging its vertically integrated model to build a £1bn wholesale business, will supply its private-label and branded products to the Morrisons Daily shops.

It will wholesale the recently resurrected Safeway label and proprietary branded goods into the remaining Sandpiper-owned stores.

The Bradford-based grocer has already struck deals to supply online giant Amazon and c-store specialist McColl’s as boss David Potts bids to rapidly grow its wholesale arm.

Morrisons wholesale director James Badger said: “We are pleased to be announcing a partnership with a strong franchise partner in Sandpiper and the opportunity to bring Morrisons quality and value to customers in the Channel Islands.

“As Morrisons becomes broader and stronger, our brand is becoming more accessible to more customers.”
