Morrisons has abandoned a policy that allowed staff to work compressed hours and has asked them to return to their desks five days a week.
The supermarket told its employees in Bradford that they would return to working a full five-day week, scrapping a policy that’s been in place since 2020 that allows them to work compressed hours, reports The Telegraph.
Staff were previously asked to work 37.5 hours over four and a half days, but the retailer said “increased cost pressures” had pushed it to make the decision.
The grocer said its employees could continue to work both from home and the office during the week, and individuals may be able to work flexibly if they need to do so. It said the changes would give shoppers better availability and improve customer service.
A Morrisons spokesman said: “In the context of a relentlessly competitive UK grocery market and widespread increased cost pressures, we have taken the difficult decision to ask our head office colleagues to move their working pattern from 4.5 days to a full five-day week.”
