The grocery giant has promoted Liz Evans to chief commercial officer of non-food and retail. Evans will be charged with leading Asda’s large store operations alongside her continued leadership of the George clothing brand.

Under chief commercial officer of food Kris Comerford, Asda announced that Ade McKeon will rejoin the business as vice president of ambient, responsible for overseeing the brand’s beer, wines and spirits, core grocery, impulse grocery, non-edible and healthcare teams.

Gemma Lightbody will rejoin the business from Marks & Spencer as business unit director for impulse grocery, reporting to McKeon.

Matt Shields will soon join from Aldi as business unit director for core grocery, while Matt Wood will take on the role of senior director of commercial operations.

Asda has also created a new senior leadership role, chief supply chain officer, which has not been filled.

As a result of Evans’ promotion and the “imminent appointment” of the chief supply chain officer, Matt Heslop will no longer be joining Asda.

Executive chair Allan Leighton said of the new appointments: “Asda’s mission is to deliver the value ordinary working people, and their families demand from us. To do this, we need to be and are rediscovering our ‘Asda-ness’. I’m delighted to be announcing these leadership changes as we start this journey.”
