Matalan has strengthened its product leadership team with two new hires as it pushes forward with its transformation journey.

Former N Brown group sourcing and sustainability director Angela Gaskell has been appointed as director of sourcing, purchasing, quality and fit.

Gaskell most recently served as chief operating officer at global clothing supplier Garment Services Group and spent eight years at the Simply Be owner.

Matalan has also hired Jonty Wilson as head of quality and technical. He brings more than 30 years experience across manufacturing, third-party quality assurance and global retail following his time at fashion retailers including C&A and Asos.

Wilson most recently served as head of quality assurance at Primark, and led the retailer’s quality function through major initiatives, such as the launch of click and collect.

Matalan chief product, brand and commercial officer Sarah Welsh said: “Strengthening our product leadership team is key to delivering our transformation. Angela and Jonty bring exceptional experience and a strong track record of driving change at scale and pace.

“Their appointments will play an important role in helping us deliver the style, quality and value our customers expect, while supporting our ambition to grow market share.”

Gaskell said: “I’m delighted to be joining Matalan at such an exciting time. There is a clear ambition to further strengthen the product offer, and bring sourcing, quality and fit together under one structure creates a real opportunity to do just that.”

Wilson added: “Quality is fundamental to the Matalan offer and I’m excited to be joining the business at a time of real momentum. Technology is transforming how we deliver quality – enabling faster decisions, smarter processes and more consistent outcomes – and I look forward to working with the team to explore those opportunities.”
