Clarks managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Olivier Motteau, has stepped down from the footwear specialist after four years.

Motteau joined the Somerset-based brand in 2022 and played a role in its transformation and retail expansion across the continent.

Posting on LinkedIn, Motteau said: “It has been a great honour to work for Clarks, a historical house, a real iconic brand in the footwear industry.

“Over these 4 years, the quality and dedication of the teams have provided growth, margin, and profit improvement, and have allowed us to regain market shares in many geographical areas.

“I want to thank all the EMEA team members for their hard and efficient work, and all the colleagues in the UK, USA, and global team for their support in both the good and challenging moments.”

Clarks president for UK and Europe Joe Ulloa, who also manages the retailer’s D2C operations in the EMEA region, will take on Motteau’s responsibilities.

His exit comes as Clarks is in the midst of a turnaround plan to recoup its losses and return to sales growth. The retailer revealed last week that it was expanding its athleisure portfolio with the launch of two new performance walking trainers following strong demand.

Clarks has declined to comment.
