Clarks has appointed a new chief executive

Ram, who will take up the post in April, joins Clarks after a period of instability and the exit of former chief executive Victor Herrero last November, Drapers reported.

He joins from US business HanesBrands, where he has run activewear since 2018, and before that he spent more than a decade in various roles at New Balance.

Clarks chair Colin Li said: “I am pleased to welcome Jon to Clarks as our new CEO. He brings significant global experience and understanding of the footwear and apparel market.

”In the last year, Clarks has implemented a focused turnaround strategy designed to protect the future of the business and to build a foundation for sustainable growth in the years ahead. This has resulted in an improved financial position.”

Clarks was acquired by private equity house LionRock Capital in 2020, and a raft of directors including the chief executive at the time, Giorgio Presca, left in the following months.

In its most recently reported year to January 30, 2021, Clarks - which underwent a CVA in 2020 - suffered a loss of £181.8m after tax as sales slumped.
