• UK retail sales rise 18% to £244m in four months to December 31
  • International retail sales jump 52%
  • Boss Nick Beighton hails “record” Cyber weekend and Christmas

Asos has revealed it had a “record” Christmas and expects full-year sales to rise by around 30%.

The fashion etailer said UK retail sales jumped 18% in the four months to December 31 despite a “more promotional market”.

Asos’s international sales jumped 52%

International sales jumped 52%, which Asos said was boosted by the weak pound and US import duty benefits.

Full-year sales are now expected to be up by around 25% to 30%, the etailer said.

Boss Nick Beighton said as a result Asos is “accelerating our infrastructure investment to handle that growth”.

He added: “Asos remains well set to meet its longer-term ambitions as a result of the hard work and commitment of the team.”

The etailer last year faced allegations of poor working practices at its Barnsley warehouse, prompting a six-page riposte from Beighton.
