Electrical firms await findings on warranties

A 'complex monopoly' exists in the electrical warranties market, according to the Competition Commission, but the regulator has not yet decided whether the situation is bad for consumers.

The commission will not ban warranty sales or impose profit restrictions, but has published a number of hypothetical 'remedies' - including longer cooling off periods and greater price transparency - should it decide the monopoly is against public interest.

Deputy executive chairman Mark Souhami is to retire.
