Morleys Department Stores is embarking on a new chapter with two senior leadership changes as it prepares for further growth in the coming year.

Chief executive Allan Winstanley will step down at the end of December after leading the business through a period of steady progress.

After shaping Morleys’ buying strategy for 13 years, buying director Daren Gittins will also depart in April to pursue personal interests.

Ray Clacher will take over as chief executive in January. He previously held executive roles at BrandAlley and senior roles at Li & Fung Group, Gieves & Hawkes, DH Evans and House of Fraser.

Clacher said: “I am thrilled to be joining Morleys Department Stores at such an exciting time.

“The business has a proud history and a strong position in the UK department store market, and I look forward to working with the team to build on this success and drive growth in the years ahead.”

Chair Bernard Dreesmann said: “Ray’s breadth of experience across premium fashion, commercial retail and department stores makes him exceptionally well placed to lead Morleys into its next chapter.”

Primarily based in London, Morleys Department Stores currently operates eight branches, including one location in Newbury, Berkshire.
