Budgens toasts city store-type success with search for similar sites

Budgens is on the hunt for more sites in central London following the success of its city stores.

The retailer, owned by Irish group Musgrave, wants to open more of the shops in the capital, adding to Parsons Green, Clerkenwell and Bow.

Chief executive Martin Hyson said Budgens is also to open two city stores in Sheffield and York within the next few weeks.

He said: 'The small city-type stores have been extremely successful, so we will be opening some additional stores in London.' The shops have a focus on fresh food. Budgens is also introducing new-look deli counters, butchers and bakeries in larger stores.
