The health and beauty retailer has teamed up with IBM on a new mobile app called Sales Assist which is designed to help store staff answer customer queries and drive sales.

The app will be made available on staff iPads and shows product availability across its store estate, customer reviews of different items and click-and-collect ordering capabilities.

The app was developed by IBM and Apple in collaboration with a member of Boots’ store staff to ensure the functionality was as relevant and useful to the retailer’s employees as possible.

Director of omnichannel and development Robin Phillips said: “The unique tool allows our colleagues to quickly show product information, ratings and reviews, look up inventory online and make recommendations based on online analytics, all from the shop floor.

“It will help even our smallest stores feel like a flagship shop, with access to the entire Boots range at their fingertips.”

This app is the latest investment by the health and beauty retailer in its ongoing digital transformation initiative. The retailer upgraded the in-store Wi-Fi of its UK stores in February and Phillips said the retailer is “investing heavily” in personalisation.
